well well. lookit that.

Hi guys.

some of you have been reading the SFWA election blog over at sff.net. some of you are reading it even though you can't post to the group.

well, today I was wrestling with the web interface with the newsgroup, and grumbling about how awful it was, and thinking to myself, "why don't they even have a Livejournal community?"

and then I thought, "wait. do they?"

it turns out that they do. and by some weird coincidence, it just got made TODAY. I added the comunity as a friend, as I am not an SFWA member and it could be that the community is only meant to have full membership access to lj users who are sfwa members... but I added it to show my interest.

and then I thought, you know, whoever founded this might be awfully surprised to find out that he's already got a watcher and the paint isn't even dry yet.

and that led to thinking that it might be a good idea to demonstrate exactly how fast the lj netwrork works...

so. here is what I propose. if you have even a mild interest in the doings of SFWA, please go and either join the community (if you're an sfwa member) or friend it (to indicate that you are not.) I'd like to see how many people can get the word and show their interest in a way the demonstrates what I am beginning to call "the new internet" after this blast from the past that is the sff.net retro newsgroup style.

and if you think this is a good idea/fitting demonstration/damned fine prank, I humbly ask you to spread the word by posting this request in your own lj.

have a skippy day, my comrades.

Yeah, what a mess that's all been.

Did you see the post on the election blog where someone "invited" anyone who wanted to post to the SFWA public ng? (Not the election blog, but another one):

Aha! So this is how it happened.

I just want to let you know that the SFWA LJ community is unofficial at the moment. I basically created it when I saw that Will Shetterly had staked out http://sfwa.blogspot.com, so that SFWA would have the option of using it if the Board decided to. I've posted an announcement to explain this at http://community.livejournal.com/sfwa/1147.html.

I've read your post, sir.

and I have responded to the questions in your post on my own lj, since I was barred from doing so in your community.

and the officialness or unofficialness of said community was absolutely irrelevant to why you got all those people watching the community. I realized that the community was not official - you did notice my cute little bit of figurative language about not yet drying paint?
